Music and Perception (MAP) discusses all aspects of music, its reproduction and perception.
The acronym MAP implies a direction or guide to the experience of music. Starting with Music creation at the beginning and ending with its perception at the end of the journey, where it is mapped in the brain and experienced. In between comes the various other steps or way-points including broadcasting, recording, processing and encoding, reproduction, acoustics and thence to ear drum and neural processing.
MAP welcomes people with technical and non technical backgrounds, professionals, enthusiasts, and academics alike.
The experience of music is deeply personal and subjective. To objectify it with measurements or testing is a valid scientific goal but it is not demanded of our members.
