Wot it says up there.
Looking for some decent on ear jobbies with very available spare parts, ear cushions etc. It's too sweaty here for overears.
The heat, humidity and salt air here have destroyed most of my decent cans, only the K701s seem to be still 100%.
Looking for experienced usage, hopefully under similar conditions.
Ta.

I still regard the K701s as some of the most transparent headphones ever made. Mine have thousands of listening hours and I have not found a sonically comparable in ear or on ear competitor.
I do think that the headphone industry has not found the holy grail of ear cushions yet. I found with the 701s that I needed to thin out the front half of the cushions about 2mm to get the most even response. I could imagine also better suited cushions for high humidity. Maybe open celled foam with easily replaceable and washable cotton or microfiber covering.
I am still amazed that the headphone industry has not come up with a design where we can calibrate the radiation angle into the ear. It would not need to be complex, but can completely change how we hear.

This was mainly due to them complying with the old I.E.C. 61938 Specification which required headphones to be driven from a 120 ohm source impedance for correct tonal balance. The same applied to my original expensive ATH W1000 headphones with their Bubinga wood cups. Incidentally, my ATH W1000 also had a thin layer of Butyl applied inside the wooden cups to further dampen resonances, as recommended in Rock Grotto forum at the time.
Kind Regards Alex
